How to test your screen
- Clean the screen first, so dust isn't mistaken for a bad pixel.
- Click Start test. The test opens in full screen on black.
- Look closely across the whole screen. Click, or press →, to move to the next color. Or pick an auto-advance speed before you start.
- Check every color: a pixel can look fine on one color and wrong on another.
Dead, stuck or hot pixel?
- Dead pixel: stays black on every color. Easiest to see on the white screen.
- Stuck pixel: stays one color (often red, green or blue). Easiest to see on black, and on the colors it doesn't match.
- Hot pixel: stays white or bright. Easiest to see on the black screen.
Found one?
If your screen is new, check the return policy and the manufacturer's pixel policy; many will replace a panel with bad pixels. Stuck pixels sometimes fix themselves after the screen has been on for a while. Dead pixels usually can't be fixed.
Health note: the test changes the whole screen's color. If you're sensitive to flashing light, leave auto-advance off.
